Serious games

Learning games for mobile and PC, built around a clear training goal. Play makes knowledge stick and keeps learners coming back.

The technology

Serious games: what is it?

A serious game is a video game whose main purpose is learning, not entertainment. It puts players in a situation, asks them to make decisions, then rewards and corrects them. The mechanics of play (challenge, progression, score) are put to work for the knowledge you need to pass on.

Games are a powerful way to learn because they do three things at once: they put you in the situation, they give instant feedback on every action, and they make you want to keep going. A serious game channels all three towards a specific learning objective.

The hard part of a serious game is not the technology, it is the design. If the game takes over, players have fun but learn nothing; if the message smothers the game, they get bored. The whole challenge is to make the enjoyment of play and the learning objective pull in the same direction.

In practice

How it works

01

Set the learning objective

We pin down what players should know or be able to do by the end, and how we will measure it.

02

Design the gameplay

We come up with game mechanics that directly serve the learning: challenges, choices, progression.

03

Build the game

We develop the game, its content and its scenarios, for mobile or desktop.

04

Test and balance

We test with real players to fine-tune the difficulty and check the message gets through.

Use cases

When should you use it?

  • Train staff on procedures, safety or customer service
  • Assess skills in a simulated situation
  • Raise awareness of an issue in a way people remember
  • Keep learners engaged over time through progression

What we produce

  • Learning-driven mechanics
  • Mobile & desktop
  • Progress tracking

Every project is scoped with your teams, built in short cycles and overseen by a dedicated project manager, from design thinking to deployment.
